The Sixth Sunday of Easter

The story of Peter and Cornelius’s household that we get in the Book of Acts this morning illustrates the whole theme of the Book of Acts: who gets to be part of the church? Can you be a follower of Jesus if you weren’t first Jewish? Can you be a Christian if you have gentile dietary practices? So much of Acts tells stories about these questions: who eats with whom and what do they eat and are they allowed in. Some of these themes come up in the gospels but in Acts it’s the main theme.
